Mouth Taping, Secret To Better Breathing

January 19, 2025

We speak, eat, and drink using our mouths. Snoring or breathing through it is not recommended. What then do we use to breathe? the nose, naturally! The key to sounder teeth and more restful sleep is nose breathing because:

  • It lessens oral dryness.
  • It lessens TMJ problems and teeth grinding.
  • It keeps the oral microbiota healthy to prevent tooth decay.

Furthermore, did you know that inhaling via your nose raises nitric oxide levels, which:

  • promotes memory
  • controls blood pressure
  • manages inflammatory response
  • boosts immunity
  • supports gastrointestinal health
  • lessens depressive and anxious feelings

If you are experiencing some congestion or trouble breathing through your nose, do not mouth tape. When you can breathe through your nose easily, it is completely safe to mouth tape. If you have chronic issues breathing through your nose, please see an ENT.

For what length of time must I tape? The good news is that it will gradually turn into a habit. Practicing nose breathing consistently throughout the day, when you are more conscious, is the best course of action. You'll thank me later and it will get easier.
