Invisalign

June 21, 2019

Invisalign is a treatment that gradually straightens teeth with clear, removable aligners. There are no wires, brackets, or restrictions that come along with traditional metal braces.

The clear aligners are made of plastic designed exclusively for Invisalign that is FDA approved, BPA free, BPS free, latex free and gluten free. The aligners can be removed to eat or drink.

This also make it simple to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy during the treatment period. Moreover, the aligners are virtually invisible, making them very aesthetically pleasing.

Who Can Use Invisalign?

Invisalign technology can be used to treat a wide variety of teeth-straightening and bite issues. It is a great treatment option for teens and adults. It has very little impact on your daily life.

Treatment Process

During your consultation, an Invisalign trained doctor will exam your mouth and create a unique, customized digital treatment plan for you to preview. Once you approve the plan, your aligners will be created.

  • Getting Started. Many offices offer free consultations. You can find an orthodontist near you with this online tool.
  • Daily Wear. You will need to wear the aligners for 20-22 hours each day. You will change aligners every 1-2 weeks, as your orthodontist directs.
  • Treatment Time. Treatment usually lasts 12-18 months, with orthodontist visits every 4-6 weeks.
  • Cost. Treatment cost is very similar to that of traditional braces but will vary based on your needs. Many insurance plans cover Invisalign and there are also payment plans available that your orthodontist will discuss with you.

Is Invisalign Painful?

While it does use a gentle, constant force to shift your teeth, some patients do experience a mild discomfort. This is usually described as a feeling of pressure.

Taking Care of Your Aligners

  • Clean your aligners regularly with the Invisalign Cleaning System or by brushing them with toothpaste
  • Never place your aligners in hot water as it can permanently warp them
  • Smoking can stain your aligners, so we discourage it during the treatment process
  • Brush your teeth after every meal before you place your aligners back into your mouth. Certain food residue, like tomatoes or blueberries, can stain your aligners.
  • Lost or broken aligners should be reported to your orthodontist immediately. You can order new aligners through their office. Do this promptly to avoid a disruption in your treatment.

After Treatment

To prevent your teeth from shifting again, you will need to wear a retainer after your treatment is over. There are many types of retainers and your orthodontist can recommend one for you.
