In modern health care, manufactured materials are commonly used to restore, repair and maintain structure and function in the body. These are known as biomaterial, which are found in many dental producers. These dental products are foreign to the human body and can affect each individual’s immune system in varying degrees.
It’s important for many patients who have health issues, chronic pain, or concerns about their wellbeing to have a knowledge of their body’s reactivity to dental products. The immune system reactivity testing analyzes the patient’s immune system to see what type of antibodies are present.
This then allows offending material to be identified and a reaction forecaster to be made. With this information, health care providers can then make informed decisions about the bio-material used on their patients.
A blood serum sample (containing the patient’s immunological reactions) is sent to a laboratory. A small drop of the serum is then mixed with one of many dental chemical components.
Protein of the serum will then react to these chemicals, which prevents light from passing through. An optical density is used to measure the degree of light that passes through, providing the level of reactivity.
Based on the level of reactivity, different bio-materials will then be separated into highly, moderately, and least reactivity. There is non-reactivity category since the immune system will recognize and respond to anything that’s foreign.
These individual reactions will also be cross-referenced against the largest professionally maintained database of trade name bio-medical composites, alloys and other materials of its kind in the world.
Blood is drawn by any medical laboratory or medical office. Biocompatible tests are considered to be fasting blood tests.
This means the patient should not have any sort of protein products, such as meat, egg or milk, for eight-to-12 hours prior to the test.
The patients should also not be on antibody therapy for the last 72 hours. Other prescribed medication may be taken when taking the test.
Caution should be used when using biocompatible tests on children since their immune system has not yet fully matured.
It’s been found that most people have not come in contract with a sufficient variety of substances to fully develop their immunological record before the age of puberty.
It generally takes about two weeks to get the test results.
